Children of Sarajevo
In Bosnia specifically Sarajevo, children where one of the main targets ( 16). After the war these children that lived there were haunted with post traumatic stress syndrome. Thought to help release some of that stress was to draw what was on the Children’s minds. One on the pictures is of a child with his hands straight out in front of him, trying to stop something, while crying.
This is very symbolic; the young child is attempting to keep the aggressor away from himself. It is like someone is coming up to him trying to hurt him in some way or form. This picture reveals the true fear behind the children.
Another drawn image by a child is very plain and simple. It is of airplanes dropping booms and a child with his hands on his head.
There might not be much to the image, but when you deeply look at the image you see the fear the children of Sarajevo had when all of the booms where going off. They could not do anything, they just had to stand there and watch it happen. It shows how deep down these children where affected (Ricchiardi 16-17).
