The Bosnian genocide consisted of three specific groups: Bosnian Serbs (Orthodox Catholic Christians), Bosniaks (Sunni Muslims), and Bosnian Croats (Roman Catholic Christians), (Genocide-Bosnia). Following communist leader, Josip Tito, a new leader by the name of Slobodan Milosevic, a Serbian, rose up in the 1980's. He was driven by his religious hatred and gaining power. His vision was for the Serbians who were Orthodox Catholic Christians to be the dominant religion in every area or country they made up.
In 1991 the Serbians, led by Milosevic, invaded Croatia, a Catholic country, made up by 12 percent Orthodox Serbs, for the purpose of ‘protecting’ the Serbian minority. They did this by executing the men and deporting the women and children. Though they did still kill women and children. For the duration of that year, the Serbians and Croatians were at war.
In 1992, America and Europe recognized the independence of Bosnia, whose population was made up of 32 percent Serbs and the rest being mostly Muslims. As a result of this, Milosevic attacked the capital, Sarajevo. The Bosniaks had no chance, for they were hopelessly outgunned. The men were killed off by the thousands and the women and children, deported. If the women refused to go, they were raped and killed. Many however, did not have a choice.
With the assumption that they did not have much time, the Serbs in Bosnia committed genocide at will. For four years this went on, until a peace accord was declared in the end of 1995 between the Bosnian Serb Republic and the Muslim-Croat Federation, (The History Place).
